Fantasy Football Files - 2019/20 - Gameweek 21

'Jack-uum!!'

My opponent this week in the 'Justice League' was Dwayne, as we clashed for the second time. I was looking for revenge, as he beat me first time around. I had not made any transfers in gameweek 20, so I had two free transfers. I was originally going to take out Bournemouth's Ryan Fraser and put in Leicester's James Maddison. Also, despite I had no intention in starting him in this gameweek, as Sheffield United were playing Liverpool, I was going to bring Lys Mousset back into the side. I had a change of heart at the 11th hour however. I decided that as they were playing Watford, and had a decent run of games to come, I doubled up on Wolves players. Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez came in. As the small Teemu Pukki experiment had not worked (thanks mainly to VAR!), I transferred the Norwich man out, and I let of Wilfried Zaha instead rather than Fraser, this was rather impulsive and after I had wondered why I actually did that.

The New Years' Day action began with Brighton at home to Chelsea. It was not a great start for me, as Tammy Abraham got a 'fantasy' assist for Chelsea's opening goal. Lewis Dunk assisted Brighton's equaliser however which was good, as the game finished 1-1 and cancelled out Abraham's contribution. In the other early kick off; Aston Villa won 2-1 away at Burnley. Jack Grealish had a goal disallowed, because of a laughable offside decision influenced by VAR, although he not too long after assisted Wesley's goal to give Villa the lead. Grealish, then scored a great goal, as Villa won 2-1. What made his performance even more satisfying, was that Dwayne had him too, but he decided to bench him, so this gave me a nice early advantage in the battle.

The 3pm games had a shock in store for me, as I expected Jamie Vardy to return but he was out again, this time because of injury, and not because of the birth of his child. Leicester won the game 3-0 at Newcastle, and James Maddison scored a great goal on his weaker foot, as I was going to put Maddison back in, I was obviously a little annoyed with myself. Southampton beat Tottenham 1-0, so my late decision to put Alex McCarthy in goal worked. Danny Ings got the winner, continuing his impressive run, but with Vardy out, I did not get the extra points I could have, as I gave the vice captaincy to Raul Jimenez. Which leads to the fact that putting all my eggs in the Wolves basket failed, as they were beaten 2-1 at Watford. Despite Ben Foster making a huge amount of saves this season, the Hornets have been error prone at the back, and I thought Wolves' counter-attacking would come to the fore, but it did not. Traore completed the most amount of dribbles in a Premier League game by anyone this season, but this did nothing for me points wise. If he does make a significant contribution for me next game against Newcastle, then I will start the petition for him to be sent to the WWE. This guys arms are bigger than my damn legs! Jimenez drove his best chance wide and I was left fuming.

In the 5.30 matches: Norwich and Crystal Palace drew 1-1, so there was no clean sheet points from Palace's Martin Kelly. Todd Cantwell scored again, and I am really going to have to get him into my team soon, only problem is he does not always start for the Canaries. The Eagles' goal was scored by Connor Wickham, who I was pleased for, with all the injury issues he has had, the only thing was the goal was assisted by the man I just took out Zaha, 'rage!'. In the late match, Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0, which meant no goal from Marcus Rashford, who was in my opponents team, so therefore only another Trent Alexander-Arnold masterclass could stop me from winning my head-to-head game. Mind you, I would not have a problem if a great performance from a Liverpool player stopped me winning. Ryan Fraser was benched again as Bournemouth were thrashed 4-0 by West ham, and bringing him in as somehow been more pointless than when I had Pukki. In Liverpool's game which was played the day after, they won comfortably 2-0 over a passive Sheffield United. Mo Salah scored early on, from a Andy Robertson ball, meaning a double dose of points for me. Only a great save from Dean Henderson denied the Egyptian a second shortly after. Sadio Mane scored late on, Salah's lovely pass would have got him an assist, had Mane scored first time, but as it was at the second attempt he did not get one. So a 13 point win for me, and another solid total, despite the slight errors I made. If I had not changed my mind on my transfers and not taken the vice captaincy from Ings, I could have almost hit 100 points.

Anyway, we move.
