Fantasy Football Files - 2019/20 - Gameweek 32

The race for the most amount of points in the head-to-head league could indeed be the only thing left to play for. As I alluded to last time out the head-to-head leagues had not been updated by the people over at FPL. I was giving them time to update things, as there must be millions of leagues about, but the table is still in it's simulated form, and this is the third week back. 'Null and voiders' may have just got their wish (unless we can sort a reasonable solution), but unfortunately for them it was in fantasy and not reality, as last week, I am not sure if you knew, but Liverpool officially became Premier League Champions. Just informing you, because you may have somehow missed it.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand, I was up against my old school friend Aasim, in a contest that mattered, but at the same time did not matter for the time being unless one of us got more than 111 points. Because as it stands the result could not affect the league table. The small breaks between the gameweeks, meant that my mind was doing overtime. I had intended to not make any changes, but then at the 11th hour, I decided to take a four point hit and make two transfers. I brought back in my two Wolves players in Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez, and out went Douglas Luiz and Jamie Vardy. I was trying to cash in on the fact that they had linked up for goals in both Wolves' games since the return, but then after I had already hit 'confirm', I had a feeling it would not work out, but it was too late.

When the game did come around, trust Adama Traore to be on the bench, man I was livid. He has on a few occasions come off the bench to cause problems, but I wanted maximum reward from my changes as I was in the minus. Wolves went on to win the game, but there was no points contribution from Jimenez, their goal to my anguish came from Leander Dendoncker who was on my bench, "wwhhyyy!". The scattered gameweek continued on Sunday, and Southampton were 3-1 victors away at Watford. Danny Ings bagged a brace, which was pleasing, but I made him my vice captain, as I was not brazen enough to give him the captaincy. I for some reason thought that Mo Salah was going to do something big against Manchester City, it is however better to go with your gut as I have mentioned before. Alex McCarthy was denied a clean sheet, as he had the ball put past him by his teammate Jan Bednarek.

Monday's action saw my local team Crystal Palace entertain Burnley at Selhurst Park. I say entertain, but the first half was hard to watch, looking at my ugly mug in the mirror for 45 minutes would have been more entertaining. I had expected that there was a decent chance of a goalless draw so I named defenders from both sides in my team. Burnley, did not have enough outfield players to fill their substitutes bench, so they had to name two goalkeepers among their subs. But they still managed to grab a precious 1-0 win through a Ben Mee header. Remember my FPL team is called '#SheSaidBenMeeOver', so I am waiting for my royalties to come through. Burnley have so many players injured, that I am starting to think that they secretly recruited Chelsea's former first team doctor Eva Carneiro. Sean Dyche tried to give me a ring to be on the bench, as I am so close to the stadium, but I had to inform him that I never was any good at playing 'Kabaddi'. But on a serious note, if Dyche could squeeze them into Europe that would be amazing, as some people had them down to be relegated. Despite Charlie Taylor getting me clean sheet points, Aasim had Burnley's Nick Pope and James Tarkowski, so it would have probably been better for the Clarets to have conceded to be honest. Added to that, Manchester United swept aside Brighton 3-0 on Tuesday evening, and Bruno Fernandes scored twice who Aasim owned, so this gameweek clash was put to bed very early, unless I got four goals and an assist from Salah or anything along those lines on Thursday...stranger things have happened, right?...

With last weekend being the FA Cup also, I had named John Lundstram in my FPL side, but he to my dismay got injured against Arsenal in the cup, so was to miss their league game with Spurs. This meant I was to get Todd Cantwell's points, as I had made him my first substitute, after I changed it from being Dendoncker. Cantwell and Norwich could not deliver anything as they were beaten 4-0 at the Emirates. So it was onto Thursday. Sheffield United dispatched of Spurs 3-1, but it could have been all so different. At 1-0, Harry Kane was denied a goal as Lucas Moura was penalised for a handball, even though he was fouled so had no way of stopping himself falling and then subsequently handling the ball. A crazy decision, but this is what happens when some people who have not played football, are in a position of power to tamper with the rules every season. Kane did get his goal at the end, which means he has 2 goals in 2 games since I transferred him in. Jose Mourinho played Eric Dier centre half again and deserved to lose just for that anyway. Liverpool started brightly against Manchester City, but they ended up being thrashed 4-0. Scant consolation for City as Liverpool had already won the war. That is as I am not sure if you have heard, but Liverpool won the league...just making sure that you knew guys. This result did nothing for my team of course, as it still has three Liverpool men in it, as they are chasing 100 points, so there is still lots to play for. However, Thursday was a complete and utter shambles, the players looked worst than me, when I used to come back damn near paralytic from the student night at 'The Works' in Kingston way back in the day, at like 5am and then go to University a couple hours later. A poor performance that got what it deserved, much like my FPL gameweek got what it deserved due to my indecision (42 measly points). If ever there was title hangover!

In regards to the head-to-head league, I will put forth to the group about sorting the prize money as the table stands. The alternative is me doing the long-winded task of calculating everyone's scores and doing a manual table to decide things. That would be the most fair option, but let's see if anyone offers to try and help...
