As stated last time out, my opposition this week was the wind-up merchant himself Muji. He was always calling people out before playing them, so believe me he was not the person that you wanted to lose to. His team looked quite strong, as he had my arch-nemesis Bruno Fernandes and I had no idea what the best thing to do with my two free transfers was.
After changing my mind on numerous occasions I decided to bring back West Ham's Tomas Soucek as it was getting quite annoying seeing a player I had to start the season continue to accumulate points. I had originally decided to finally let go of Ollie Watkins up front, but I had a late change of heart and went with a transfer at the back. Brighton's Tariq Lamptey was now out until mid-January, so I sold him and got in Burnley's Charlie Taylor, as I eyed Sean Dyche's men getting a clean sheet at home to Sheffield United.
The action started at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace drew 1-1 with Leicester. I was disappointed to find out that Jamie Vardy was on the bench. I was then informed by talkSPORT's Jake Watson on Twitter that I should have known, as Brendan Rodgers said he was basically going to change the whole team after their draw with Manchester United. I am usually the first person to criticise people for not keeping tabs on managers' interviews and press conference's, but here I honestly had no idea. I was annoyed as I would not have given him the vice-captaincy if I had been on the ball and checked on things. Chelsea and Aston Villa met next in the late evening game. I was eager to see if I would benefit from leaving in Ollie Watkins, but he was not to get on the scoresheet. He did almost get an assist as substitute Jacob Ramsey nearly scored with his first touch after a flick-on by Watkins in the second half. Villa's goal was scored by Anwar El Ghazi, a man I looked at as he is on their penalties too, but I honestly thought his scoring run would come to an end, but I was to be the fool. It was setup by Matty Cash who is only owned by less than 1% and considering how many clean sheets Villa have kept this is very surprising. El Ghazi now has 5 goals in 5 games.
On Wednesday; Burnley kept the clean sheet that I expected as they won 1-0 at home to Sheffield United. The problem for me here was that the man I brought in Charlie Taylor got injured after just nine minutes...typical! Therefore making the transfer pointless. The irony is I had also looked at his teammate Ben Mee, the man who inspired my team name 'SheSaidBenMeeOver'. But I went with Taylor as he was cheaper and I thought he was more likely to get an assist if there was to be one, so you can guess who got Burnley's winner...yep Ben Mee...I felt sick, that could have been 15 points right there! The Clarets' clean sheet helped Muji as he had Nick Pope in goal. Southampton and West Ham had a goalless draw at St Mary's and this was good as I eventually went with Alex McCarthy in goal. I left Kyle Walker-Peters on the bench, but I was to get his points anyway as Vladimir Coufal did not start for the Hammers. Walkers-Peters however unfortunately got booked.
Leeds ran riot as they beat West Brom 5-0 at the Hawthorns. I had wanted to bring in Rodrigo Moreno for Watkins as a differential but then as I said I had that late change of mind, and Rodrigo was to score as well as getting bonus points. Patrick Bamford, who was another option but his high ownership put me off grabbed two assists (one a 'fantasy' assist) and this meant points for Muji. The Everton and Manchester City game was called off as City had players who tested positive for Coronavirus, this seemed good as Muji had three players between the two teams. He did however still have his captain Bruno Fernandes to play in the last match on Wednesday. All looked good at Old Trafford as it was goalless going into the 90th minute, then Marcus Rashford was to score in the third minute of injury time for a United victory and of course the pass came from Fernandes, I shook my head in disgust. I have come to the conclusion that Fernandes just hates me...well you play for Man United so the feeling is mutual mate.
After Muji's captain did his job, it was time for mine Harry Kane to deliver. But then on Thursday afternoon the inevitable happened and the Spurs and Fulham fixture was called off. There had been an outbreak in Fulham's camp so it was definitely the right thing to do, but it meant there was no way now I could beat Muji. We had the same Liverpool players left to play in Andrew Robertson and Mo Salah, plus he had Jordan Henderson too. This was a lesson to me, you must pay close attention when you pick your vice-captain. With games being postponed and the heavy rotation that goes on in this hectic period, picking correctly was more necessary than ever as now I got Vardy points and he did not even start. Newcastle held Liverpool to a goalless draw to draw the gameweek to a close, and the only FPL positive was that Robertson got maximum bonus points.
Another head-to-head defeat means I now lay ninth with eight wins and eight defeats after 16 games. This weeks' total of just 40, was easily my worst of the season. I need to have a good January or I may not find myself top of many traditional leagues. The second 'Wildcard' bonus chip is now available and I need to strongly consider when I will be using it.
