Premier League 2019/20 Fixtures Released

Updated: Nov 10, 2019

So after vast speculation and 'leaks' that literally all turned out to be wrong, the fixtures for the new Premier League season were finally released. Runners-up Liverpool will start off the new season as a whole at home to Norwich in the Friday night game on August 9th. This gives them a tidy break until they play the European Super Cup final against Chelsea on August 14th, but it does not give them much time before they face Southampton at St Marys on the 17th. This also means Liverpool may cancel their friendly with Schalke on the 6th August as it will be too close to the Norwich game. Chelsea have drawn the short straw as they play Manchester United on August 11th, giving them minimal time before the Super Cup game. The customary August home game against Arsenal is Liverpool's third game of the season, before the month concludes with a tricky away trip to Turf Moor to face feisty Burnley.

Liverpool's fixture in full, dates due to change pending TV coverage and Cup draws

Liverpool's toughest months as it stands will be: October where an away trip to Old Trafford where they have not won since 2014 sandwiched by home games against Brendan Rodgers' Leicester and Tottenham. December as always is packed; the Merseyside Derby starts the month and trips to West Ham and Leicester either side of Christmas will not be easy. The month finishes with a home game against Wolverhampton, the Midlands outfit caused Liverpool issues home and away in the 18/19 season, despite Liverpool taking maximum points. January concludes with the return fixture against Wolves, a very quick turnaround there, before that game they travel to Spurs and entertain bitter rivals Manchester United.

A potential 'title decider' could be at the start of April as Liverpool travel to the Etihad to play the champions Manchester City, if it to be the same top two, then Liverpool will prefer playing them much later in the season, as they played their second game in January last campaign. If City are to stumble then at any stage, then Liverpool would think that it will be between the 9th of November and Boxing Day. Liverpool entertain City on November the 9th, then to finish November they are at home to Chelsea and go to Newcastle. In December; they have the Manchester Derby and are at home to Leicester as well away games against Burnley, Arsenal and Wolves. In that same time period, Liverpool play Crystal Palace (a), Brighton (h), Bournemouth (a), Watford (h), as well as the aforementioned two tricky games against West Ham and Leicester.

Liverpool's end to the season is what causes a little worry, as they play away at Arsenal to start May, then are at home to Chelsea and draw the curtain on the season at St James Park to play Newcastle. With the first meeting against Arsenal in August, and the first meeting with Chelsea in September, one wonders why the reverse fixtures are then at the end of the season. Looks like the fixture computer had a little too much fun on Wednesday night, as things usually do not run like that. When you play someone in August/September the return game is normally in December or January. Anyway, it is the same for every team and Liverpool will hope to tie up the title before that difficult end to the season, spurred by their European success there is now a winners mentality at the club that will hopefully pull them through.
